About the Book
Lanterns, Lamps & Candles is a comprehensive handbook of non-electric lighting.
If you want a reference book on gardening or firearms or dairy goats, there are thousands to choose from. But non-electric lighting? A handful. And one that's not packed with misinformation? Now you're pushing it.
Lanterns, Lamps & Candles is an ebook on CD, in PDF format, mailed to you First Class. You can print it out; there are no restrictions. It contains 70,000 words, 20 chapters, 442 color photos, glossary, and index. I will notify you when it ships.
What is it you seek?
How to light your house in a blackout? This book covers it.
How to improvise light when you're away from home? This book covers it.
How a pressure lantern works . . . how to change a mantle . . . or the generator in a lantern? Covered.
How to make candles at home . . . alternate lamp fuels like paint thinner or rubbing alcohol or diesel fuel and where they can be used . . . a lamp that burns vegetable oil . . . or butter or margarine or lard? This book covers it.
Safety? The radioactivity of mantles . . . gasoline in a BriteLyt or Petromax . . . carbon monoxide? This book covers it.
Here's a YouTube video by the author showing how to convert a Coleman gas lantern to kerosene. Mike (the fellow who runs OldColemanParts.com out of Vancouver) commented, "I watched your video. It was very well done. I would only change one thing. A plug for Old Coleman Parts instead of Coleman. LOL."
Lanterns, Lamps & Candles is self-published. It was sobering to discover that some of the more prominent survivalist Web sites have a two-year waiting list for advertisers.
Gaye Levy (a.k.a. Survival Woman) runs Backdoor Survival, one of the better-known sites. Gaye cautions potential advertisers up front that she is very selective.
So I felt fortunate when she expressed interest in Lanterns, Lamps & Candles. I sent her a copy for review.
Her response: "The PDF is very readable on the iPad…I went through the entire book…I would be honored to have you advertise on Backdoor Survival."
